Plan Hoopers courses, to the VDH rules.

Place hoops, tunnels, barrels and gates to scale, plus the handler area. The curve of the running path grows with every station, and the planner measures distances along the path. Checked against the Hoopers regulations 01/2023, levels 1 to 3, and ready to post as a PDF.

Example Hoopers course, level 1: 11 stations of hoops, tunnel and barrels on a 32 by 25 metre field, the handler area in the middle, the running path as a clockwise curve.

How a course comes together

Five steps from an empty field to the posted plan. The plan beside the text is real: drawn by the same building blocks as in the planner.

  1. Step 1 of 5

Place the obstacles, the path comes along

Hoops, tunnels, barrels and gates go onto the field to scale, together with the handler area. Every new obstacle becomes the next station, and the curve of the running path grows with it. Distances are measured along the path, not as the crow flies; anything outside the level is marked at once. Move an obstacle and the curve follows.

What the planner checks at level 1

    • 10 to 15 stations
    • 4 to 8 m from station to station, measured along the path
    • at most 12 m from the handler area
    • turns up to 180°
    • approach up to 45° at a hoop, 30° at the tunnel

    Source: VDH Hoopers regulations 01/2023

  2. Step 2 of 5

    Checked against the Hoopers rules

Distances between stations, distance to the handler area, approach angles at hoop and tunnel, turns: all per level. In this plan the last hoop stands too close to station 10.

    Violation

From station 10 to the next is 2.97 m along the path — 4 to 8 m are allowed.

Limits: VDH Hoopers regulations 01/2023, level 1

  3. Step 3 of 5

    Vanja makes a suggestion

Vanja sets Hoopers courses too: obstacles, stations and handler area within the limits of the level, no AI. In the planner you take the suggestion over and move whatever you want differently.

Computed in your browser, with the same rules as in the planner.

  4. Step 4 of 5

    Walk it: the 2D walkthrough

Before you build, walk the plan: handler and dog follow the path, every element is worked through in order. Length and time appear at the end.

  5. Step 5 of 5

    Post it

The finished plan goes out as PDF or PNG, A4 landscape, with or without distances, with a header for title, level, judge and date.

Questions about Hoopers

Which regulations does the check use?

The VDH Hoopers regulations 01/2023 and their guidelines, levels 1 to 3. The limits apply per level.

Which obstacles are there?

Hoops, tunnels, barrels and gates, plus the handler area. Every obstacle stands to scale on the field and becomes the next station right away.

How is the running path made?

As a curve through the stations, not a zigzag: the planner computes it from the order and position of the obstacles. It measures distances along the path, not as the crow flies, and writes the metres on the path.

What does the planner check?

Distances between stations, distance to the handler area, approach angles at hoop and tunnel, and turns, depending on the level. What is only a hint shows as a hint, not as a violation.

There’s even Agility and Rally Obedience here

One account, several sports: the same planner, the same way of checking, the same printout. With the club plan you plan together, in folders that belong to everyone.

Example Agility 2 course, VDH: 17 numbers on 16 obstacles in a 40 by 30 metre ring. The dog’s path starts bottom left, runs over a hurdle and the seesaw to the right, in curves up through the middle to the weave poles and tunnel on the right edge, along the top fence over the dog walk to the left, back down over the A-frame and ends bottom right at a hurdle that was already number 3.
